English cottage pie - Placinta taraneasca englezeasca - Torta al paesano inglese



















   How to make : 3 tbsp oil,500 gr mince beef,1 chopped onion,1 grated carrot,100 ml tomatoes juice,50 ml red wine,salt,pepper,550 ml beef stock,300 gr grated cheese.Mash : 500 gr potatoes, 100 gr butter,75 ml milk,salt.Heat the oil in a large saucepan and fry the mince until browned add the vegetables and cook on a gentle heat until soft, about 20 mins. Add tomato juice, increase the heat and cook for a few mins.Pour over the wine, if using, and boil to reduce it slightly before adding the stock and herbs. Bring to a simmer and cook, uncovered, for 25 mins, if a lot of liquid remains, increase the heat slightly to reduce the gravy .Meanwhile, make the mash. In a large saucepan, cover the potatoes in salted cold water, bring to the boil and simmer until tender. Drain then mash well with the milk, butter, and three-quarters of the cheese, then season with salt.Spoon meat into ovenproof dishes,spoon on the mash to cover. Sprinkle on the remaining cheese. Heat the oven to 220 C and cook for 25 mins, or until the topping is golden.
